Paneer 65...

paneer 65

Paneer 65, as the name may make anyone wonder why it's called Paneer 65. I think it's all because of its crunchy and spicy taste which can even make a 65-year-old person jump with joy. It's an Indian vegetarian evening snack, liked by all age groups from a small kid to aged people. It's easy to make, and the ingredients used in this recipe are also readily available in the kitchen every time, this snack gets requested.

So, here is the recipe, with few of my own additions to it...

Ingredients:

  • 15 cube shaped Paneer pieces (cottage cheese)
  • 1/2 cup Finely chopped Onion
  • 1 Fine chopped Green chilli
  • 1/2 cup Fine chopped Capsicum
  • 2 Tbsp Maida
  • 1Tbsp Rice Flour
  • 3/4 Tbsp Corn Flour
  • 1/4 Tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 Tsp Chaat Masala
  • 1/2 Coriander powder
  • 1/2 Red chilli powder
  • 10-12 Fresh Curry Leaves
  • 1 Tbsp Soya Sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 cup Hung Curd
  • Salt as per your taste
  • Oil for stir frying the paneer cubes

Method:

  • In a medium sized bowl, mix maida, corn flour, and rice flour well. To this add water to make a medium consistency paste. Keep it aside for 5 minutes.
  • Now, dip all the paneer cubes in the above-made paste for 2 minutes. Meanwhile in a frying pan, heat the oil. When the oil is ready, put 5-6 paste covered paneer cubes in the hot oil and fry till golden brown.

  • When done, transfer them on the kitchen napkin, so that the extra oil is absorbed and your snack will come out oil free. Repeat this method for all other paneer cubes.

  • In another pan,  heat oil on low flame. To it add finely chopped onions and few fresh curry leaves and stir fry it till the onions turn transparent and soft.

  • Now very slowly add hung curd to the onions and curry leaves. Also, add red chilli powder and salt as per your taste.
  • Add the already fried paneer cubes and mix well so  that the onion paste gets covered on all the paneer cubes, cover and let it cook for 2 minutes on low flame.
  • Serve it hot with tomato sauce or any of your favourite chutneys.
